Window problems
Windows - common problems that can be rectified
|
The hinges on windows are
normally referred to as 'friction stays'. This is because the
opening sash is held to stay in the position in which it is
opened by the hinge. An arrowhead in the corner locates to
pull the opener in to its draught-proof position. The sliding
friction pads are prone to breakage at their weakest point. |

|
This picture shows a screw
fixing, but many are pop-riveted on, which makes them harder
to replace, although it can be done.
Even if only one hinge needs
replacement it is normal to fit a new matching pair. |
| |
|
Sealed units that have
misted up are normally straightforward to replace, although
some are more difficult to do than others.
Note that this sealed unit
is being fitted from indoors, because this is an 'internally
beaded' window. If the beading is on the outside, then the
glass sealed unit has to be fitted from the outside. |
